Some while ago Liz sent to me several SketchUp files containing the models for three mushroom houses she had been working on. She believed they’d be a great addition to the RCT2 Wonderland Theme we’ve got going on at The Crüe. The models she sent have all been moved into a temporary SketchUp file so as to show them off here in a single screenshot.

In addition to the various miscellaneous shapes Liz had sketched out there were two complete mushroom houses and a small rough-out for a third house.

I felt like I was eight years old again on Christmas Day when I opened Liz’ SketchUp files and I was utterly charmed by what she'd done. I immediately found a favorite and although I had very little time I just couldn't help myself. I slightly rearranged the textures on the ‘double’ house and added a quick, rectangular doorstep knowing while I sketched it in that a more organic shape for the step was needed. Although I had made these minor adjustments, Liz’ double mushroom house was practically ready for release when I received it.

The textures Liz chose are just wonderful. The doors she included are most suitable and the little pinecone, frosted glass windows are adorable. Liz displayed a great deal of generosity in sharing with me her delightful mushroom package.

Right away I sent Liz renderings of my results.

I was most anxious to make further progress but got caught up in the creation of my own CSO’s in addition to the other things we must do in our day-to-day. Recently I had the opportunity to return to do further work on these Wonderland Themed mushroom houses.

The double, split level house on the left has been given a more oval-shaped doorstep while the split-level with red roof on the right has had a slight curve added to the wall shape.

I’m especially pleased with the house in the middle, an idea that originated with the rough model created by Liz. While Liz had already sketched out the shape she had in mind for this house, because the scale of it needed to be increased I’ve quadrupled the polys in the walls for a more organic shape. It’s four storeys tall and I’ve simply duplicated the door and windows from the other mushroom houses pending fresh window and door ideas from Liz.

Efteling-type benches have been created to include with this set. The supports to each bench suggest that the bench has been bolted into the ground.

The benches will have a colorable rail on either end, and are the only colorable items in the set at this time.
